Over My Fear

I have always had this fear of using BWOF patterns. I faithfully purchase the magazine every month, reading from back to front, even marking off the ones that was a must have. But couldn't convince myself to give it a try. Just the thought of having to trace the pattern and add the seam allowance was just too many extra steps for me. And lets not include the pattern instructions. But when I saw this skirt on Toy's blog I just had to have it. I put all the crazy thoughts to the side and got busy....and this is my finished product. It was well worth all the effort..... This is a gorgeous skirt and it fits well.

This top is a Butterick one hour pattern. I trimmed off 4 inches from the hem and fused knit interfacing with very little stretch to half of the cowl neck to make it stiffer so it can stand up

Baby Shower Party Favor....

We had a baby shower at work for my co-worker who is due to give birth next week. I made this family of bunnies and the centerpiece. Everyone loved them especially the bunnies. They even wanted me to show them how I make them.

The bunnies were made from a washcloth, with satin ribbons, satin flowers, felt fabric for the eyes and mouth and cotton puffs for the tail.

The centerpiece was made with styrofoam and decorated with ribbons, flowers and miniature baby toys....

Misses skirt with princess seam, high waist,
carrier and self belt, side front pleats and pockets,
self ruffle, mid knee length.
Size: I cut a 14 and boy was I happy I didn't need to
do any adjustment to the pattern

Fabric: Wool Crepe
Color: Wine
Pattern Alterations: None needed
I loved this pattern when I first saw it. The pleats on
the side gives a nice touch to a simple straight skirt, but
I was a little unsure about making it because the side
pleats looked like they would be a problem. Was I wrong,
this is a very simple and easy pattern to follow.
I only needed to look at the instructions when it was time work the pleats and attach the pockets. Everything else is an easy sew. The ruffled skirts are cute also, but I am not a fan of ruffles especially on a skirt....lol.....

So, this is my attempt at making my first pair of jeans.

Simplicity 4366 - Misses pants in two lengths, wide leg or boot cut, with or without cuffs, worn below the waist.

View C - Boot cut without the cuffs

Size - I cut a 14 with alterations

Fabric - Dark denim

Pattern Alterations : I cut a size 14 to fit my hips and waist, but trim about 1 1/2 inch off the inner thigh area to give me a more closer fit. I also lowered the waist front and back by 1 inch and deepen the crotch area.

Style Alterations: I wanted a more dressy type of denim pants so I omitted the side pockets and the back flap pockets and added my own back pockets.
