Pattern - Misses Cardigan and Top - Cardigan has three quarter or full length sleeves. Cardigan front can be embellished with lace, jewel stones, pearls or self fabric appliques. Top has a round neck line with narrow hem finishings.

Fabric: I purchased this fabric from Metro Textiles last fall. It's a mixed blend knit. Sturdy and has some weight. I didn't experience any edge curling or unraveling when it was cut. It even pressed well on a wool setting.

The cardigan was sewed right out of the envelope with the exception of the sleeves. I added 2" to the length. The front and neck facing were interfaced using fusible tricot knit. All edges were serged and pressed.

What caught my eye with this fabric is the window pane and argyle pattern. Right away I knew it would make a nice cardigan set. The top was sewed right out the envelope no FBA was needed. This pattern has enough ease for a comfortable fit.

Even though the instructions stated to make a 5/8" narrow hem at the edges and stitch I skipped that and finished the neckline and armhole using a black single fold 1/2 inch wide bias tape that was sewed to the right side of the edges and then folded to the inside and stitched. I think this finish is much neater.



Instead of making buttonholes, I used covered hooks and eyes. I think the buttons would have disrupted the pattern formation on the front of the cardigan when it is closed.


I secured the hooks by sewing it in three places... The third stitch is not visible because it is directly under the hook. I love to add basic garments to my work wardrobe and the cardigan set is definitely one of those items. This pattern is great for all levels of sewing.

Where did the time go. Its been two months since my last post and what have I been doing? Nothing crafty at all, just being lazy and unmotivated. However the time has come for me to shake it off and get busy.... So I decided to start off with something simple and quick. I love cardigan sets. They are comfortable and make a great addition to your work wardrobe.

Details:

Pattern: Misses fitted cardigan and top. View A is a longer length cardigan, with a self fabric belt, long sleeves, button front and a turtle neck sleeveless pull-over. View B has a shorter length cardigan, long sleeves, button front and a sleeveless pull-over top with a boat neckline.

Fabric: I used a sheer lightweight poly ribbed knit from my stash. This knit has very little stretch.

I cut a size L based on the finished bust measurement of the pattern. Since my fabric had very little stretch and the pattern description stated that this was a fitted cardigan and top. I decided to do a 1" FBA on the top to make sure that I had enough room in that area especially since the fabric is on the sheer side. For the neckline and armhole edges the pattern suggested folding the edges to the inside and stitching it down. I knew that wouldn't work for me because the seam allowance would be thin which means I would have to sew slow and with a very steady hand. I wasn't up for that challenge so I cut bias strips from the fashion fabric and used that to finish the neckline and armholes.


For the front band, the instructions suggested that you interfaced only the button hole areas. I
skip over that part and interfaced both pieces of the front band to provide stability to the buttons and buttonholes. I used knit interfacing. The bands are cut against the grain which gives it a nice uniformed and neat finish. Instead of regular buttons I used five 3/4 covered buttons. No fitting adjustment was made to the cardigan pattern. The finished measurement on the cardigan left me with enough room for comfort.



I love the boat neckline. Its not too high and its sit right below your collar bone.


I found the sleeves were a bit short. So I added 2-1/2 inches to the length of the sleeve and hem it under by 1" so the edge sits right on top of my wrist bone.

Kwik*Sew really lived up to their name with this pattern. This project was a very Kwik Sew. From start to finish it took me one day. It would have only taken me a few hours if I wasn't distracted by the TV.

I love this set and the simplicity of putting it together. I would definitely make this again. This will be my TNT cardigan set pattern. I recommend this to all level of sewers.
